Product Description

The Fighting 69th is the 69th New York Infantry Regiment based in New York City's historical armory on Lexington Avenue between 25th and 26th streets. Founded in 1849 as the First Irish Regiment, the Fighting 69th was an all-Irish citizen militia created to train young Irishmen living in New York City in military tactics to fight against the British Crown for Irish independence. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, the First Irish volunteered to fight for the Union cause and reorganized as the 69th Infantry New York State Volunteers. The unit went on to fight in major engagements including the U.S. Civil War, WWI, WWII, Iraq, and Afghanistan. In the spirit and tradition of this time-honored regiment and the world’s finest Irish whiskeys, The Fighting 69th is proud to present an Irish Whiskey truly worthy of the 69th's 170-year tradition.

The Fighting 69th Irish Whiskey is distilled, aged, and bottled on the southern Irish coast in accordance with Irish law. Their mash bill consists of the finest barley, malted barley, and corn, which is then triple-distilled in handmade copper pot stills uniquely designed for maximum vapor and copper interaction. The Fighting 69th Irish Whiskey is a unique blend of three distinct distillates, which undergo separate finishing processes. All their whiskey is first matured in used bourbon casks for a minimum of 3 years. It then undergoes a secondary finish in a variety of other casks, including single-char casks, double-char casks, Oloroso sherry casks, rum casks, and port casks. This uniquely finished blend results in a fine distillate with robust character and a full smooth finish.

The nose starts with nuances of apple and pear, balanced with malt, oak, and hints of caramelized Bourbon notes. The palate then moves from the clean apple and pear front notes to the vanilla and caramel from the charred bourbon barrels, rounded out with just a touch of sweetness from the port and sherry casks. The finish is a well-balanced whiskey with a hint of cinnamon and sherried honey.
