Product Description

In the Ukiyo-e Heroes project, illustrator Jed Henry and traditional woodblock printmaker Dave Bull have combined their talents to create Japanese woodblock-inspired prints. Machine printed on handmade Japanese paper, each piece brings a surprising twist to iconic heroes, villains, and monsters spanning almost every genre. Modern costuming has been traded for the medieval, but the essence of each character remains.

What must we do to control our own free will? Are we slaves to our basic human nature? These are the questions artist Jed Henry wanted to explore in this design. The larger caption reads 黒剣士, which means "The Black Swordsman." The smaller caption reads 戦いしか知らんが故に俺は戦うぞ, which roughly translates to "I fight because I know nothing else."
