Product Description

"The Mediterranean Sea is a mackerel color: in other words, changeable — you do not always know whether it is green or purple, you do not always know if it is blue, as the next moment the ever-changing sheen has assumed a pink or a gray tint," a letter van Gogh wrote in Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer read. This is the result of a studious period for the painter by the sea.

Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh (1853—1890) went from relative obscurity during his lifetime to becoming one of the most recognized names in 19th century art. The Dutch post-Impressionist painter's work is characterized by rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. Unfortunately, he did not start painting until his 20's and died at the young age of 37.
