William Painter

Aerospace-Grade Sunglasses

An Irish boy named William Painter, who would one day invent the crown cork bottle cap and bottle opener, was born on Nov. 20, 1838. The mechanical engineer and inventor immigrated to Baltimore in 1865 to search for better opportunities. After beginning his career as a foreman at the Murril & Keizer’s machine shop, Painter started Crown Cork and Seal in 1892 to manufacture universally sealable caps. A Hall of Fame inductee, his innovation is the inspiration for this line of durable metal sunglasses.
