Like many others, the Café Terrace at Night was painted in Arles, France. This was one of Van Gogh’s first painting where he used a starry background. Van Gogh achieved an effect of luminosity with the use of contrasting colors and tones. The scene shows the South view of a popular coffee shop that can still be visited today. This colored glass adaptation captures the vivid colors and expressionistic brush strokes of the original painting.
