Product Description
Petrali Wines is a small-production, family-owned winery located on a sunny little hillside in the town of Sonoma. Owners Ali and Peter Engel are transplanted New Yorkers who met at Stuyvesant High School in the ‘80s and moved to California almost 25 years ago. Their vineyard is hand-farmed with no pesticides or artificial chemicals and is California Sustainable Farming certified.
Petrali Wines has been fortunate to enjoy great success with numerous medals in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest blind-tasting competition held in the U.S. These three winning wines are made to be held, so they can be enjoyed immediately, or cellared for 10 years or more.
Gold Medal Winner at the 2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the 2006 Sonoma Valley Syrah has a dense, deep and purplish hue. Its nose contains black fruits, olive, pepper and dried herbs, with a complex, massive entry of lush, jammy fruit. It is full bodied with good integration of oak and the chewy nature of the wine, all leading to a very long finish.
Another Gold Medal Winner at the same 2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the Grange-style 2008 Sonoma Mogoloo Red Blend has a deep red/purple color consistent with the red ripe fruit of the nose. This lush fruit gives way to a peppery, lively mid-palate balanced with a long finish. The wine pairs well with grilled meats, highly seasoned poultry and game.
To complete the trio, the 2009 Sonoma Valley Mogoloo Red is the product of a lush, ripe, late-blooming fruit that persevered through a challenging growing season in Sonoma Valley. This Grange-style, 85% Syrah/15% Cabernet Sauvignon blend has a purple color consistent with the red ripe fruit of the nose. The mid-palate is complex with a long finish that continues to get smoother with age. This pairs nicely with red meat and game.
